It was a dark exhibition room at The EYE, with footage of an eye surgery projected onto multiple enormous rectangular screens. It left a hard impression—especially when small details were zoomed into something almost monumental and architectural. Brutal and evasive. I guess that’s the point. It made me sympathize a bit more with Alex in A Clockwork Orange; correction feels like a slow-dying cancer patient, and fighting the disease becomes the purpose of living. It’s both guilty and innocent to say—just let it go.
Ever since my eyesight went bad, people have recommended laser treatment so I wouldn’t need to wear glasses. But somehow, that goes against my norms and rituals. It’s a perfect excuse to see the world with a bit of distortion that keeps me sane. For me, it feels less passive—as if I still have a choice in what I’m seeing, and what I’m unseeing. There is always a moment and a chance every single day to get ready with myself.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll start writing in HTML. More structured. Clearer-headed.
